Before the galleries, there was the street. "SAMO" is a tribute to the designer’s favorite artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat, channeling the raw energy of the cryptic tags that first appeared in lower Manhattan.
Taken from a large-scale mural, this piece is inspired by the heavy themes that he never shied away from, slavery, systemic inequality, and heritage. This is for the Modern Historian who knows that art isn't always meant to be polite; sometimes, it’s meant to be a wake-up call.
